Time to start planning.

In theory starting things off this year should cost a fair bit less, as the shelving and the lighting hardware was all purchased last season. So I should only have to get seeds, more cow-pots, and something to start the seeds in.

Last season I used seed starter mix, which is not soil by any traditional definition. It seemed to work alright, things certainly germinated. But a question I will have to look into is what affect (positive or negative) that mix becoming part of the outdoor soil has. I would assume that its either neutral or has some benefits, after all it is specifically made for starting seeds, and the only reason to start seeds is that they will later be transplanted. Granted that not everyone will be transplanting the whole seedling including the container, which again in my case is the pots made from cow poop.

Seed cost based on the list I posted minus seeds not in stock ~ $35
*Currently out of stock [sad face] : Purple Dove Beans, Nautic Sprouts, Tango Celery, Brocade Corn, Marketmore Cucumber, Yankee Bell Pepper.

Will check back weekly to try and get the rest of the seeds ordered, will also try to locate them elsewhere. Would like to order everything from SeedsOfChange if possible, though they are clearly hippies the seeds I got last time were of high quality.

I shall have to take time in the next week or so to plan out how many seedlings to try and germinate (assuming I can track down the out of stock items) as that will determine how many cow pots to order. For those interested, these are what I refer to : http://bit.ly/grHk1i

In addition will have to craft up a spreadsheet with the seeds on it (modeled after a spreadsheet Ivy put together last year) so I can more carefully plan when I start the seeds for each species so that they are ready to transplant at the right time. Last year I just started everything at once, which was foolish, but hey one step at a time right?
